On 29 Jul 1880 in Gatesville, Coryell County, Texas, Matt Huff married Miss Susan Trammell. D. Quillen performed the marriage.[1] Parents were not specified but she may have been Susan Ann Trammell, daughter of Peter Thomas Trammell and Fairnetta Trammell.

The date of death was 27 Jan 1942 at 87 years, 11 months, and 20 days. His parents were specified as Mattison Huff [James Madison or Mattison Huff?] , born in Texas, and Elizabeth Martin, also born in Texas [these places of birth may not have been accurately reported by the informant?]. The place of burial was Cypress Mill, Blanco County, Texas. Felix Neuman [son-in-law] of Johnson City was the informant. The primary cause of death was cardiorenal syndrome; a contributory cause was senility.[2]

[3] Also recorded at Holdman Cemetery, and indicated as sons of Matt and Susan, were: Elmer Huff, born 3 Aug 1886, died 3 Sep 1894 (aged 8), and an infant son, born 18 May 1891.

JOHNSON CITY, Jan. 29.--(Spl) Another of Johnson City's pioneer citizens, Matt Huff, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Felix Neumann here Tuesday and was buried in the old Homan family plot near Cypress Mill Wednesday. He was born near Gatesville March 7, 1855. In 1879 he was married to Miss Susan Trammel at Gatesville. They moved to Blanco County in 1883 and spent the next 16 years on the M. H. Holton ranch as Cypress Mill. The wife preceded him in death on May, 1914. For the past 26 years he has lived with his daughter, Virgie Neumann.
Surviving sons are Martin Huff, New Mexico; M. C. Huff, Panhandle; M. E. Huff, Pampa; daughters, Mrs. J. H. Cates, Garden City; Mrs. N. F. Cates, Gorman and Mrs. Felix Rech of Post Oak and Mrs. Neumann, Johnson City. He is also survived by 33 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
