Biography

Wilbur was born in 6 Aug 1886 in Bennet, Lancaster County, Nebraska.^[1] His parents were H. Albert Humphrey and Inez Alfaretha Colby.

By 1910 he and his parents had moved to= Chicago, Illinois where Wilbur was working as a private secretary to an electrical engineer.^[2] About a year later on 3 May 1911, Wilbur married Kathleen L. Fox in Cook County, Illinois.^[3]

He registered for the World War I Draft on 31 May 1917. He indicated that he was married. He gave his trade as "stenographer" but indicated that he's not employed.^[1] According to his Veteran's Administration record, he served as an Army Field Clerk^[4]

When Wilbur returned to the United States in April 1925 from Cherbourg, France aboard the SS President Roosevelt, he brought with him his new wife Irene,^[5] who he married in Budapest. While he was overseas, Wilbur worked as the secretary to Theodore Brentano, American Minister to Hungary.^[6]

On 28 Apr 1927, there was a newspaper article announcing that Irene was divocing Wilbur, saying that when they returned to America, he abandoned her in 1925.^[6]

On 5 May 1928 in Manhattan, New York, he married Marie Szuri from Hungary. He indicated on the marriage license that he was divorced.^[7] Just about a year later, Wilber was back in Cook County, Illinois where he died on 24 May 1929. On this death record, his wife's name is given a Irma.^[8]
