Biography

Hiram was born in Plumsteadville, Pennsylvania in 1904. to Peter Loux and Mary Lapp Nice Hunsberger the 8th of 9 children.[1] He was only two years old when his father passed away. He helped to run the family farm growing up .He had a great talent and love of gardening .[2] He married Stella Hendricks on June 24th 1928 in Bucks county[3], and they had four daughters and 23 grandchildren [4]two of which are Farris-686 and Tew-140. They also took in 15 foster children through out their years in Doylstown Pennsylvania where Hiram worked at Burpees seed company , Nyce's Feed Mill and as a caretaker of Doylstown Mennonite church which he also attended. In 1952 He moved with his family to Gulfport Mississippi and worked at Wayne's Feed Store (previously Amco Feed) and also did volunteer work with the RSVP (Retired Seniors Volunteer Program). He attended Gulf Haven Mennonite Church in Lyman where he and Stella celebrated their 50th anniversary and where he was buried when he passed on December 17, 1987. [5]

His daughters also remember after he retired he would still have old customers calling him at home for advice and help on gardening

he spent a lot of time in garden. His daughter Hazel said he could grow a palm tree in an igloo. I still remember when he had his stroke and was in the hospital he never complained about pain or horrible food or anything you would expect but was so upset because he could not take care of his garden. I remember especially his pear trees which he had several of I used to climb up in them and look into his beautiful garden I have as of yet found any pears that tasted as good as the ones he used to grow. I also remember he had a lot of aloe plants he had a small sun room on the back of his house and every window had rows of aloes plant. He was a good man you could always count on and who always tried to be fair like actually trying to measure ice cream he was serving to be sure every one getting same amount
