Thomas Huntley or Thomas S. Huntley was born about 1730. This was estimated from the age of his children and his witnessing of a deed in Duplin County, NC. He and his wife are thought to have come from around Norfolk County, VA as a Thomas Huntley had tithes there in 1753 and 1754. A Thomas Huntley witnessed a deed in Duplin County, North Carolina in 1757 that is now a part of Sampson County.
He received a grant of land on the south side of the middle prong of Jones' Creek in Gulledge Township in Anson County in 1769. Over time he acquired an additional 650 acres. Thomas served as a private in the Revolutionary War, DAR Ancestor # A060808. In 1790 and 1800 he was still a resident of Gulledge Township in Anson County, North Carolina according to the census records.
He died between 1800 and 1802 as his will was probated in April, 1802.

The ancestors of this family are believed to have come from Scotland.
Thomas and his wife, Sarah, were buried on the property, The place has been located and a marker placed which can be seen in the Find a Grave link.
Some sources say that his wife's name was Zilpha or Zilphia but it is Sarah in his will. See

DAR files gives birth year as 1745 in Bedford County, VA. Bedford was not formed until 1753 and the arithmetic does not work for a 1745 birth year.
