Biography

Mary was born about 1675. To date I have found no positive proof that Mary Gerrard Hutt ever existed. ^[1]

Mary Gerard Hutt was born about 1675.^[2] She married John Trammell in Virginia on September 10, 1698.^[3]

She died around 1738.^[4]

Ancestry

There is no positive proof that Mary Gerrard Hutt was the daughter of Gerrard Hutt, son of Daniel Hutt and Temperance Gerard. Gerrard Hutt does not name any Mary as a daughter in his will. Granted it is believed that she died prior to 1740 when Gerrard died, but neither does he name any grandchildren by the name of Trammell.

Another problem are the birth dates of Mary and Gerrard. It is assumed that Gerrard was born ca. 1670 (his parents married ca. 1669) and Mary was supposedly born ca. 1675. Thus, it would be impossible for Gerrard Hutt to be the father of Mary Gerrard Hutt.

The Gerrard Hutt supposedly born ca. 1655 is unfounded and has no documentation.

Since Gerrard Hutt was born too late to be Mary's father, in the absence of any other known Gerrard/Hutt couples in Virginia at the time, Mary is presumed to be an undocumented daughter of Daniel and Temperance. This has been speculated elsewhere:^[5]

Is it possible that a second daughter, Mary, was conceived shortly before Daniel HUTT's untimely death and born after it, say in 1674, the same year his will was probated? That sort of thing must have happened occasionally. There would then be just enough time for Mary to grow up and marry John TRAMMELL and be recorded as his wife in 1691 in Westmoreland Co. VA.
