Biography

Descendant
Descendant of First Nations Christine Aubois.

Charles Héon was born about 1727 in Beaubassin, Acadie, Colony of Nova Scotia, son of Charles Héon and Anne Clémenceau.

He married Madeleine Labauve, daughter of Francois Labauve and Madeleine Blou, 19 June 1748 at Beaubassin, in the presence of Charles Heon and Jean Damian who both signed.[1][2]

Their children were:

  1. David Héon (~1750 - <1820)
  2. Scholastique Héon (~1753 - 1758)
  3. Raimond Héon (~1756 - 1812)
  4. Marie Magdeleine Héon (1760 - 1821)
  5. Marie Victoire Heon (<1762 - 1829)
  6. Paul Héon (1764 - 1836)
  7. Louis Charles Héon (1767 - 1792).

In 1752, Charles and Madeleine were residing at Pointe-à-Beauséjour with their son. In the 1755 census, the family was recorded at Aulac with 3 boys and 1 girl. [3] After 1755, they managed to escape deportation by fleeing possibly to Camp d'Espérance on the Miramichi, or to Isle Saint-Jean (now Prince Edward Island). [3]

In a letter dated 28 October 1755, written in Québec by Villejoin, major and commandant of Île Saint-Jean, he mentions Charles Héon (fils/son) who came to Québec to find food for his family and his brother-in-law Pierre Arseneau who were on Isle Saint-Jean. Villejoin declined his request for provisions but accepted to write this letter of recommendation for him. [4]

The family sought refuge in Canada, Nouvelle-France in 1757. They were aboard a ship that left Acadie, probably Miramichi, around 1 October 1757 with 151 passengers and disembarked at the port of Québec on 16 October 1757. Travelling with Charles and Madeleine were their children David, Scholastique and Raymond. [5] Charles' parents and siblings were also on board.

In 1764, the seigneur Charles Legardeur, sieur de Montesson, chevalier de St-Louis conceded land at Lac St-Paul near Bécancour to several exiled Acadians, including Charles on 18 October 1764. [6][7] His brothers Pierre and Joseph also received land concessions in the same seigneurie.

Charles died on 14 Feb 1807 in Bécancour, Nicolet, Bas-Canada aged ~79 and was buried on 16 February 1807. [8] It was noted in the register that he died at his home after a lengthy illness and was given the age of 80 years.

Occupation: Navigateur-(sailing-master)
