Emma was born in 1847. She was the daughter of Israel Hakansson and Lovisa Magnusdotter.

Emma and her husband emigrated to North America in the summer of 1882, along with their infant son. Her sister Ida emigrated in October the same year, and their parents and brother Carl August the following spring.[2]
She passed away about 1885. [3]
