Biography

Name: Crippen P. Jackson.[1]

He was called "Rufus" in the 1850 census, which may have been his middle name, which is otherwise unknown. Note that he also had a son named Rufus.

Born: 28 Feb 1846 Knox County, Tennessee.[1]

Married: Eveline F. Taylor, abt 1867 Red River County, Texas.
(no record found at the courthouse; 4 children)

Died: 25 Dec 1878 Red River County, Texas.[1]

Killed by being shot off his horse by one of his brothers (which one is not certain) in a family argument. Details are known to the family but will not be given here.

Buried: Lone Star Cemetery, Red River County, Texas.[1]

"Crip" was buried in a corner of his brother, Calvin's, land. When Calvin's infant son died a few weeks later, he declared the spot a cemetery. This eventually became known as Lone Star Cemetery and responsibility for it was turned over to the local community, the residents of which still maintain it.

For earlier census listings, see both his parents' profiles.
