Biography

Margarete was born in 1900. She passed away in 1920.

Margaret was born in 1900 in Devils Lake, Ramsey County, North Dakota to her Black Sea German-Russian emigrant parents Melchoir and Helen (Voeller/Fehler) Jaeger[1]. In the 1920 US Federal Census she was called "Maggie"[2]. Maggie grew up in a large German-Russian community in North Dakota, and spoke with heavy accent despite being born in America[3].

Maggie got married 19 July 1920 to George Schmidt, who, with his German-Russian parents had also migrated from the Black Sea Russian colonies to North Dakota. Together they had eleven children. She died in 1981 and was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum in Milwaukee Wisconsin[4].
