Biography

OBITUARY: Amanda Louise Jenke Urban, 90, of Manheim, Texas, passed Saturday, March 21, 2015, at St. Mark's Medical Center in La Grange, Texas. Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m., Monday, March 23, 2015, and from 7 a.m. to 12 noon, Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Manheim with Rev. Herb Keistman officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery.

Amanda Louise was born in Bastrop County, Texas, to the late Otto Emil Jenke and Louise Anna (Eschberger) Jenke. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor, Texas on May 4, 1924, by Rev. William Seidel and confirmed there as well on April 10, 1938 by Rev. A.F. Michalk. Her confirmation verse was Revelations 3:11, "Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown."

Amanda attended school in the Long Branch community and at Trinity Lutheran School in Fedor. She was united in marriage to Alfred Emil Urban on November 14, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor by Rev. A.F. Michalk. She was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church where she helped to sew quilt tops for the LWML's Lutheran World Relief. She loved her family, animals, gardening, and taking care of others.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Alfred "Jim" Urban Sr.; a son, Alfred "Fritz" Urban Jr.; and a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Urban.

Survivors include her sons: Henry Urban and his wife, Joyce, of Paige, Reinhold Urban, of Manheim, and Allan Urban, of Giddings and his wife, Linda, of Leander; daughter, Helen Galipp and her husband, Paul, of Schulenburg; daughter-in-law, Donna Urban, of Houston; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Annie Schulz, of Paige; sister-in-law, Dalia Markert, of Victoria; as well as several nieces and nephews.
