Cordie Johnston Lankford Kanipe
MOORESVILLE -- Mrs. Kanipe, 80, died Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Genesis Elder Care. She was born on January 29, 1930 in Iredell County to the late Charles M. Johnston and Ollie Anderson Johnston. God needed an angel in heaven so he called our mother home but she's only as far away as our hearts and she will live forever in our love. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vaughn Lankford, and husband Joe Kanipe, brother James Johnston and sister Marie Mitchell. A mother's love is something that no one can explain, yet another wondrous evidence of God's tender guiding hand. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons, David Lankford and wife Debbie of Mooresville and Dwight Lankford and wife Robin of Tampa, FL; daughters, Debbie Pannell and husband Carl of Mt. Holly, Rebecca Piercy and husband Johnny of Charlotte, and Danita Lankford of Charlotte; brother, Russell Johnston of Mooresville; sisters, Mildred Stikeleather of Statesville, Evelyn Hedrick of Statesville, Alice Toungate of Austin, TX, and Minnie Whitley of Mooresville; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Berean Grace Church, 1933 Misty Vale Rd., Charlotte, NC 28214 or the Alzheimers Foundation, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2010 in the chapel of Raymer Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Piercy officiating. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior at the funeral home. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff for all the wonderful care Cordie received at Genesis Eldercare in Mooresville.
