DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Sarah by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Sarah:
McLemore seems the most likely husband. When Sarah's brother, Sugan Jones, died, his children were underage. Along with Sugan's brother, Edward, Adkins McLemore was one of the guardians (if he were an uncle of the child, that would make sense). See: Warren County, North Carolina Will book 11 page 3, will of Shugan Jones dated July 15, 1761, probated August 11, 1761
ALSO, The Warren Record, in 1909 and 1910, posted a weekly genealogical series with an in-depth study of the children of Edward and Abigail (Shugan) Jones [please note: it wasn't always correct!]. On 3 Sept 1909, they wrote about Sarah Jones (the numbers behind some of the names indicate their generation): "Sarah Jones 2, married Adkins McLemore. We presume the McLemore's came over to this section about the time of its first settlement. They seemed to have located in that part of Granville or Edgecombe within the bounds of Franklin. There is no record on Will Book Warren County of the McLemore's other than is contained Adkins McLemore's will, probated in 1791 and witnessed by Wm Christmas and others. He appoints his wife Sarah (Jones) McLemore2 executrix and William Christmas and Young McLemore executors." " Sarah Jones McLemore 2 was the mother of the following children: : Martha 3 (Nicholson), Abigal 3 (Christmas), Young 'McLemore 3, Nathaniel Christmas 3, Abraham McLemore 3, Robert McLemore 3, Adkins McLemore 3, Sarah Jones McLemore 3, and Priscilla McLemore 3. "
"Adkins McLemore divided among these children 24 negroes in 1781, and gave to his beloved wife during her natural life nine additional negroes. To each of his children he gave beds, furniture and riding horses, among them "Pleasure," to Sarah Jones McLemore, “Cupid" to another, and to another "Polly Crackup. " They with others of the neighborhood, moved to Tennessee and became prominent there-one of them being offered a position in General Jackson's cabinet.
