Biography

Hattie was born about 1893.^[1][2] She was the daughter of Charles Kalmanowitz and Marcia Bluma Mogilevkin.^[3] She married Leon Max Newfield in 1934.^[4]

Hattie died in 1960.^[5] She was buried at Springfield Cemetery in Springfield, Massachusetts.^[6]

Obituary

Mrs. Leon Newfield Stricken at Home

Mrs. Hattie (Kalman) Newfield, 62, of 93 Knollwood St., widow of Leon Newfield, was stricken in her home Thursday morning and taken to Springfield Hospital where she died shortly after arrival. She was born in Russia in July, 1897, daughter of the late Charles and Marcia (Mogilevskin) Kalman, and came to this country in 1908. She lived in Pawtucket, R. I., and New York before coming to this city. She had been associated with Music in the Round, music store at 16 Hampden St. with her brother, Benjamin Kalman. She also leaves a daughter, Miss Marcia Newfield, a student at Columbia University; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Feldman of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Sunday at noon at Harold R Ascher funeral home with Rabbi Herman E. Snyder officiating. Visiting hours will be Saturday night at the funeral home from 7:30 to 9. Memorial observance will be at 93 Knollwood St.^[7]
