"Jeremiah Keith. Paralysis complicated with gangrene from which he had suffered since last March was responsible for death of Jeremiah Keith, aged 74 years, two months, and 28 days, who died at his home in Green Township November 17. He was one of the most prominent residents of that section of the county, and was long regarded as a foremost citizen and business leader of the Keith section, where he spread wide influence as a community builder. For 29 years he was a merchant and conducted the store in connection with farming. When Grip post office was established at his store he became postmaster and held the position for 21 years, when the office was discontinued. He spent his entire life on the farm where he died and during his active years was prominent in politics, having been a lifelong Republican. At the outbreak of the Civil war he enlisted in Company D, 115th regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers, and was the leading patriot of his community. He was a member of the Cherry Tree G. A. R. Post and the Brethren church. His wife and the following children survive: Mrs. J. B. Lowman and Mrs. H. A. Long, of Barnesboro; Mrs. M. R. Snowberger, of East Freedom, and Clark C. Keith, at home. He is also survived by these sisters and brothers: Mrs. Martha Long and Adam Keith of Barnesboro; Mrs. John Hines, of Ivison; Mrs. Mary Lute, of Colver, and Daniel Keith, of Saxman … interment was made in McDowell cemetery in Green Township."
