Biography

Stuart Edward Kelly was born on January 7, 1912 in Michigan, United States to parents John A. and Sarah E. (Smith) Kelly.

During the 1920 United States census, Stuart lived on a farm in Moore Township, Sanilac County, Michigan. He was 7 years old and attending school. Living with him were parents John A. (49) and Sarah E. (47), and siblings Nettie B. (19), Grace L. (17), Lois W. (15), Ethel G. (13), Alger J. (10), and Elwin R. (4). Augusta M. Kelly, his widowed grandmother, also lived with the family along with Thomas E. Smith, his widower grandfather.

Stuart was eighteen years old during the 1930 United States census. He lived with his brother Alger (spelled Elger in the record) (age 22), Alger's wife Gladys (age 22), and their children Maxine (age 2) and newborn Ivan. They lived on Alger's farm in Moore Township, Sanilac County, Michigan where Stuart was employed as a farm laborer.

The 1940 United States census recorded Stuart at 28 years old on April 5 of that year. He lived at 2355 W. Eddy Road in Moore Township, Sanilac County, Michigan with his father John A. Kelly (age 69) and his father's wife Ora D. (age 63). They lived and worked on a farm. Stuart is recorded as having been a high school graduate.

He married Leona Mae Stanton on June 29, 1940 in Snover, Michigan.

Stuart died on January 13, 1994 in Sandusky, Michigan at the age of 82.
