Biography

"DEATH." The Carcoar Chronicle (NSW : 1878 - 1943) 8 October 1937 DEATH. LATE P. J. KELLY. The passing of the late Mr. Philip J. Kelly, at Blayney, on Wednesday,caused deep regret throughout this and Blayney district, for he was widely known and highly esteemed. Born at Brown's Creek, 65 years ago, he was the only son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Kelly. In those days the Creek was a hive of industry and mining was being carried on extensively. The Kelly's ran a hotel, and money was plentiful. Coming with his mother and only sister (Bridget) to Carooar, he spent most of his years in the old town. After the death of the late J. W.Fox, he was appointed Council Clerk to the Carcoar Municipal Council. In 1906, with the inauguration of Shire Councils, he was appointed clerk to the Lyndhurst Shire Council, and held that position until May last year— thirty years of staunch service. During the earlier part of his life in Carcoar he was with the late Mr. B.McDermott, solicitor. Phil," as he was familiarly known, never married, but was a dutiful son to his mother and a supporter of his church. Of late he had not been enjoying the best of health, and his many friends noticed that, but did not expect his end so suddenly. After Requiem Mass at the Blayney Catholic Church — where the body had been placed — the cortege wended its way to the Catholic portion of the Carcoar cemetery, where the remains were laid to rest close to the spot where his parents and sister are buried. The chief mourners being Messrs William Corry, Alec and John Callan and Stan Berry. Rev. Fr. Emilhainz reciting the last sad rites.
