In 1910, James and Alice Kern were farming at Kechi in Sedgwick County, Kansas. They had two children at home: Clara (3) born in Illinois and Hugh Dayton (1) born in Kansas. Also in residence was Alice's sister, Luella (29).[1]
Dayton Hugh Kern was born October 6, 1908 in Kansas to James Kern and Alice Davies. Prior to his death he was a resident of Hickory in Catawba County where he was a cabinet maker with his own shop. He was married to Maggie Newell. He died at Winston-Salem Convalescent Center on April 9, 1980. Informant was his wife, Maggie.[2] He was buried at Catawba Memorial Park.[3]
