His mother Mary Kilpatrick was heavily pregnant when she boarded the Asia in 1854 with her husband Andrew and their five children, arriving Hobson's Bay, Victoria, Australia 30 December 1854.[3] The sixth child, Agnes, was born during the voyage.
Andrew married Christina McKenzie 1872 in Victoria.[4]
