Biography

There are two dates for the marriage of Mary Haile to Henry King-- 9 September 1663 and 6 July 1668. Both marriages stated to be in Virginia, however no source is cited for either date.

We know Henry King married Mary a daughter of Nicholas Hale because on 12 November 1672 in Lancaster County, Virginia, Henry King was named as the husband of Mary, the daughter of Nicholas & Mary Hale, in a court order to divide the personal estate of Nicholas and Mary[1] [2] [3]

13 May 1673 in Lancaster County, Virginia,, the difference between Henry King, plt, & George Hale, defendt, is referred to the next court at the request of the defendt [4] [5]

10 Feb 1674/5, Lancaster Co., Va; Nicholas Hale, sonne of Nicholas Hale, deced, appeareing att this Cort and petitioning or the chooseing of Henrey King for his Guardian and this Cort findeing hym of sufficient age soe to doe, have ordered and appointed the sde King for his Guardian. [6]

9 December 1674 in Lancaster County, Virginia, Henry King was named as the brother in law of Nicholas Hale and was his guardian[7] [8]Nicholas Hale is gone away from his brother George Hale to his brother-in-law Henry King and Estate to go to the sd. King. [9]

13 December 1675 in Lancaster County, Virginia, a commission of administration was granted to his wife, Mary[10] [11] 13 Dec 1675, Lancaster Co., Va., Private Court at the request of Mary King. Com. of Adm. on the est. of Henry King, dec.d, to Mary King widdow & relict of sd. Henry King, and Inv. to be Exhb. [12]

10 January 1675/76 in Lancaster County, Virginia, an inventory of the goods and chattels of Henry King, deced. [13]

13 February 1677/78 in Lancaster County Henry King, dec.d, indebted to William Theriott - 420 lbs of tobacco and ca: p. Bill. Ordered that the same be paid out of the estate of King (Sparacio, Lancaster County, Virginia Order, page 89, [14]

13 February 1677/78 in Lancaster County Charles Merriman, Administrator of Henery King, deced, being arrested to this Court at the suit of ( ) Warkman and there appearing noe cause of accon. no pros wth:costs is granted against the sd. Warkman [15]

If per the biography Mary was indeed a "widdow" in December 1675, then Henry must have died between 9 December 1674 and 13 December 1675, not in 1709 as given. Her profile says she married Charles Merryman in 1678.
