Biography

Robert was born in June 1840^[1] in Gibson Co., TN. He was the son of James Kirby and Susan Joyce. On the 1850 and 1860 censuses, he is listed with his parents in Dyer Co., TN. On 8 Jan 1868 he marries Susan Jane Wells in Haywood Co., TN^[2], and they have at least 8 children. In 1880 and 1900 they are in Crockett Co,, TN, where he was in the farming industry. In 1906, his wife Susan dies, and on 26 Oct 1911, he marries Mrs. Emma Latham in Crockett Co.^[3] He passed away on 2 Feb 1916 supposedly in Jackson, Madison, TN.

Robert was also a private in the Confederacy in the Civil War in Company C of the 27th Regiment of the 25th Tennessee Infantry.^[4] He enlisted 20 Aug 1861 at Camp Trenton and was wounded at Perryville, KY.^[5]
