Homer Conway Kitchens was born on April 12, 1892, in Waldo, Arkansas, to James Monroe Kitchens and Margarette Frances Sherrill. He was one of their twelve children. His father was a farmer and his mother was a homemaker. He grew up in Lamartine and Magnolia, Arkansas, where he attended school and helped his family on the farm.
In 1917, he moved to Manhattan, New York, where he worked as a carpenter. He married Olga Whitehurst, a native of New Jersey, and they had one son, Jack Conway Kitchens, born in 1921. The family settled in Brielle, Monmouth County, New Jersey, where Homer continued his carpentry work. He also lived in Bradley Beach, Monmouth County, for some time.
Homer Conway Kitchens died on April 18, 1966, in Brick Township, Ocean County, New Jersey, at the age of 74. He was buried in Neptune Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey. His wife survived him, son, and several siblings. He was remembered as a hard-working and loving husband and father.
