1794 February 28: This indenture made this twenty eighth day of February in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and ninety four between Charlton Shockley of the state of South Carolina, Union County of the one part and Thomas Stevens of the State and County aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Charlton Shockley for and in consideration of one hundred pounds sterling to him in hand, paid by the said Henry Stevens, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained, sold, and delivered and by these presents do give, grant, bargain, sell, release, convey, and confirm unto the said Henry Stevens, his heirs, exors, adminstrators or assigns one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County aforesaid, containing by estimation, one hundred and forty acres, be the same more or less and bounded as follows (to wit) by David Hopkins line on the East, Isaac Sooks on the West, Thomas Shockley's line on the North and Enoch Hollingsworth line on the South to have and to hold the aforesaid premises with the appurtenances thereunto belonging and every part and parcel thereof unto the said Henry Stevens, his heirs or assigns and he the said Charlton Shockley doth by these presents forever warrant and defend the aforesaid land and premises with the privileges ????? belonging unto the said Henry Stevens, his heirs or assigns in witness thereof hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year first above written.
