Mary Elizabeth at 12 wasn't working yet, and there were five younger children - Margaret (9), Sarah (7), Alice (5), William (2) and baby Thomas (3 months). William (12), Thomas (10) and Jane (8) were in school, and James Ellis Newberry Dixon was only two and still at home.

By March 31st 1901, the family was at the same address. Margaret was still single but had moved into lodgings in Atherton Road. Alice was also still single, and working as a live-in domestic servant in Westleigh Lane, Wigan. William was working as a coal mine labourer; Thomas, and Richard junior, as coal mine drawers. James was only twelve and not working yet.

Thomas married Mary Sargeant in 1905 in Llandeilo.
