Biography

Mary (Koplin) Markley was born in 1753. She was the daughter of Christian Koplin & his wife Deborah (Umstadt) Koplin. The will of Mathias Koplin, father of Christian Koplin, listed Mary as his granddaughter.[1]

On the 7th of January 1775 Mary married Jacob Markley, son of Philip Markley & his wife Mary (Johnson) Markley.

Mary Markley died 15 Dec 1831[2]

To my said three sons Philip, John, and Jacob Markley and son-in-laws John Zeiber and John Krupp: each of them the bond and obligation each of them has given me for the sum of $325 with any interest, if due, at the time of my decease. All of which I give to my said five children above their equal share with the use of my children and heirs
  3. To my grand-daughter Sophia Hoffman, only daughter of my late daughter Lydia Markley Hoffman, deceased, the sum of $50 to be paid to her within 6 months of my decease, as her full share out of the estate
  4. My executors make public sale of all my personal effects, the proceeds are to be added to my estate in bonds and notes shared between my chilldren in addition to the sum above-mentioned.
  5. All the rest of my estate (except my wearing apparel) unto my eight children to wit: son Philip, son John, son Jacob, Deborah the wife of John Zieber, Hannah the wife of John Krupp, Mary the wife of Isaac Detterer, Sarah Grysky the wife of Lewis Grysky, Susanna Freed the wife of David Freed, or to their heirs respectively
  6. All my wearing apparel to my five daughters above named, or to the survivors of them in equal shares
  7. I appoint my sons Philip, John, and Jacob Markley and son-in-law John Zeiber executors.

Will of Mary Markley late of the Northern Liberties Phila. In the name of God Amen. I Mary Markley of the Norther Liberties in the County of Philadelphia, Widow, am weak in body but of sound disposing mind and memory , do think fit this fifteenth day of September, in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight hundred and Thirty do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows to wit- First I order my executors herinafter named as soon after my decease as conveniently can be done to pay all my just debts and funeral expenses and to make a just inventory of all my estate excepting what is hereafter disposed of to my three sons, Philip John and Jacob and my two sons in law John Zieber and John Krupp. Item: I give and bequeath unto my said three sons Philip John and Jacob Markley and my said son in law John Zeiber and John Krupp and to each of them respectively the Bond and obligation each of them has given me for the sum of three hundred and twenty five dollars together with the interest if any due thereon at the time of my decease, All which I give my said five children over and above their equal share with the use of my children and heirs.

I give and bequeath unto my Grant-daughter Sophia Hoffman Only daughter of my late daugter Lydia Markley Hoffman deceased, the sum of fifty dollars to be paid to her lega represetatives within six months after my decease, as her full share out of my estate Item As soon after my decease as convenient I order and my executors to make public sale of all my personal effects the proceeds of which together with all my estate in bonds and notes, owing to me by my children or any of them, over and above the sums hereinbefore mentioned shall be paid into my personal Estate. Item. I give and bequeath all the rest and residue of my estate (my Wearing apparel only excepted) unto my eight children to wit To my said sons, Philip John, Jacob, Deborah the wife of John Zieber, Hannah the wife of John Krupp, Mary the wife of Isaac Dettrer, Sarah Grysky the wife of Lewis Gryski Susanna Fried The wife of David Fried or to their heirs respectivily in equal shares alike Item I give and bequeath all my wearing apparel to my five daughters above named or to the survivor of them in equal shares alike- and Lastly I nominate, constitute and appoint my said sons Phillip, John and Jacob Markley, and son in law John Zeiber, Executors of this my last will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills, and legacies by me made ratify this and this only, to be my last will and Testament. In Witness Thereof I have hereunto set my hand aeal the day and year herein before written. Mary Markly (seal) Signed, Sealed and declared by the said Testatrix to be his last will and Testament who at her request have signed as Witnesses hereunto Martin Thinsberger- Benj Reiff Montgomery County S.S. The 29th day of December A.D. 1831, before me William Powell Register of Wills be in and for said County personally came Martin Thinsberger and Benj n Reiff The subscribing witnesses to the foregoing will who being duly affirmed according to law; did severally depose and say, that they were present and saw and heard Mary Mary the Tesatrix therein named sign seal publish pronounce and disclose the forgoing Instrument of writing as and for her last Will and Testament and at the time of her so doing she was of a sound disposing mind memory and under- standing to the best of their knowledge and belief Wm Powel Register

Be it Remembered that on the 29th day of December A. D. 1831 the foregoing will of Mary Markley dec’d was proved in the due form of law and letters Testamentary thereon granted unto John Markley , Jacob Markley, John Zieber and Philip Markley were all duly sworn or affirmed , well and truly to execute the same, to file and Inventory of all the Lands and Chattels Rights and Credits which were of the said dec’d and to render and account according to law Also to deligently and faithfully regard and well and truly comply with the provisions of the act of Assembly.
