Daniel Kuehner was a son of Daniel Kuehner, Jr. and Julia Lorah). [1][2]
In 1862 when he was 19, he began work for the Beaver Meadow Company, becoming at that time a resident of Weatherly, Pennsylvania. He was a brakeman on the railroad and afterwards promoted to fireman. In 1871, he was given charge of a stationary engine which he operated until 1898, at which time the shops were moved to Packerton, PA. When the business of the Beaver Meadow Company was merged into that of the Lehigh Valley Company, Daniel continued with the latter. Starting in 1898 he was a watchman in the company's shop at Weatherly.

Daniel Kuehner served in the Union Army during the Civil War. In 1863 he became a member of the regiment commanded by Colonel Robert Klotz, and with his troops defended the state. He was honorably discharged without taking part in any active service, but reenlisted under Captain S. Harleman and Colonel Albright. Again he was in no active service and at the expiration of his term was honorably discharged. On February 1, 1864 he once more enlisted and this time became a private in Co G of the 81st Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers. With that company, he took part in a number of hotly contested battles. At Spotsylvania on May 12, 1864 he was wounded and sent to Fredericksburg, and then to Belle Plaine, and later to Lincoln Hospital in Washington D.C. As soon as possible, however, he again went to the front joining his regiment in front of Petersburg, Virginia in August of that year. He saw active service from that time until the close of the war and on June 9, 1865 received an honorable discharge with a service disability. His Army discharge record states he was five foot six, light complexion, grey eyes, dark hair.
Upon his return to civil life he once more entered the employ of the Lehigh Valley Company.
Daniel married Lucy Ann Koch on December 18, 1863. They had seven children. [5]
The family lived in Weatherly, Carbon County, Pennsylvania, for many years. [6][7]
Daniel Kuehner died in 1923 and is buried at Union Cemetery, Weatherly, Carbon County, Pennsylvania. [8]
