Caroline Lane c. 1733 and James Lee c.1723 are probably the parents of John Lee c. 1755- 1840 Revolutionary Soldier. Caroline Lane 1733 has similar family names with other people: CONJECTURE on relationships following family name use.

Caroline Lane, if she ever existed, was probably born about 1733 in Bertie County, North Carolina probably to Judge Joseph Lane Esq. and Attorney at Law, probably born 1 Jan 1703 in Jamestown, Isle of Wight, Virginia, and died 29 Aug 1773 in Roanoke River, Halifax, North Carolina and Patience Mckinnie (Kinne McKinne Quin McKinney) born before 1715 in Isle of Wight, Virginia and died 1772 in Halifax, Halifax, North Carolina.

Caroline's probable father and James's father both lived in or had property in Chowan, NC around 1720.

Caroline's possible brother, Jesse Lane (3 Jul 1733 in Halifax, Wake, North Carolina), has a daughter: Caroline Aycock Lane born 26 May 1761 in Halifax, Wake County, North Carolina, and died 24 Dec 1824 in Ashville, Buncombe County, North Carolina, and married 2nd husband, George Swain b. 1763 d. 1829 and had some daughters named:

John and Elizabeth named some of their children:

  • 1 Lewis Lee abt. 1787-1850;
  • 2 George Lewis Lee abt. 1801-1890. These two sons probably carry their mother’s last name ( Lewis).
  • 3 James Lee abt. 1790 who had Keziah Caroline Lee 1836-1861 probably carries his grandfather's first name (James); and Keziah Caroline Lee could be named after Caroline Lane who is Keziah's great grandmother;
  • 4 Jincy Lee abt. 1807-1880 who had some children named:

Elizabeth Caroline Wooten has a son named: Elijah Lane Hays 1864-1888; "Elijah" is his great grandfather’s name Elijah Hays (1772-1845). "Lane" could be his gg grandmother’s last name: (Caroline Lane b. about 1733).

In 1790 John Lee lived in Wayne County, NC., with several "Lanes" and "McKinneys".
