Research Notes

Many online trees have Thomas Geake and Peggy Langmaid as being the parents of Llewellyn Thomas Hockridge Geake and his sister Jemima Lydia Hockridge Geake, baptised 1829 and 1836 respectively in Stoke Damerel, Devon with Thomas being listed as a baker at the first baptism and a butcher at the second.

Since Peggy's husband Thomas Geake died in November 1834 in St Germans, Cornwall it seems strange that they would have travelled all the way to Stoke Damerel to have children of their old age baptised!

It seems as though Peggy would not only have been too old at age 60-61 to begin having children again after a 20 year gap but that she would have had any new children with her in the 1841 Census when she was 70 years old and living in Stoke Damerel -- but she doesn't.[2]

In addition to all of this, Peggy does NOT mention Jemima or Llewellyn in her Will which was probated in 1846 when they would still have been minor children. She DOES mention her living daughters, the children of her daughter Mary Webb, the daughter of her son John as well as her son William. (Her daughter Peggy Langmaid Geake Tebbutt married in 1837 in Australia and died 2 years later.) [5][6] (MacKechnie-21 17:25, 30 December 2021 (UTC))
