Biography
Joseph was born in 1837 in Batavia, Ohio to Elias Lanham and Mary Ann Lanham; it's possible that his parents were related, as they have the same surname.
At the age of 20 he marries Lucinda A. Mockbee (Mockabee) and together they make their home in southern Ohio, raising one daughter and three sons: Allen, Emma, Charles and Edward.
Both the 1880 and 1900 US Federal Census cite his trade as blacksmith, and it's possible that he worked this trade until he passed in 1916 at the age of 79.
Joseph is buried in Greenmound Cemetery, less than one mile away from his home on Union Street, New Richmond, Ohio.
