Claude William Isaac LANSDELL was born in 28 January 1911, at Longford, Tasmania. His parents were Claude Harold LANSDELL and Elsie (UPSTON) LANSDELL.[1][2]
His father died in 1912, after falling over a cliff whilst returning from a hunting trip to Cluan Tier. Claude was just 18 months old:
LANSDELL— UPSTON. — On the 10th June, 1912, at Launceston Hospitall (result of accident), Claude Harold Lansdell, dearly loved husband of Elsie Lansdell, Bracknell, Tasmania and son-in-law of Wm. Upston,of Evelyn-street, St. Kilda, aged 28. [3] Elsie gave birth to her second child, daughter Claudine Elsie, just five weeks after her husband's death.[4]
1925 - CHOPPING ACCIDENT. On Friday morning an accident happened to Claude Lansdell. the 14 year-old son of Mrs. Claude Lansdell of Bracknell. He was cutting wood in the bush when the axe struck against a bough overhead and descended, cutting his right instep. He was conveyed to Longford, where Dr. Haines found it necessary to insert three stitches.[5]
1926 - Mr Claude Lansdell, of Bracknell, is at present on a visit to the East Coast.[6]
1932 - BRACKNELL On Thursday a birthday party was held in the Bracknell Public Hall in honour of the twenty-first birthday of Mr. Claude Lansdell. Over one hundred guests assembled, and the evening was spent in games, cards, and dancing, after which the guests adjourned to the Methodist Hall, where a dainty supper was set out. The tables were beautifully arranged, the chief feature of the top table being a three-tier birthday cake, which was made and decorated by Mrs. D. J. Prewer.[7]
1936 - HAGLEY LODGE, No. 32, I.O.O.F.On Monday evening the Grand Mas-ter, Bro. J. T. 1938 - WEDDING - Lansdell—Morse. Easter daisies, dahlias and autumn leaves decorated the Baptist Church, Deloraine, on Wednesday, March 30, 1938, for the wedding of Miss Ethel Morse and Mr. Claude Lansdell, “Little Mount,” Bracknell.
The bride, who is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Morse, “Pleasant Hill,” Deloraine, chose rich chenille satin for her wedding gown. It had a closely tucked bodice, the high neckline being fastened with a little pointed collar finishing at the back, which was slit and fastened with small buttons. The sleeves were close fitting, and came into long points at her wrists. The skirt adopted pleated Grecian lines. The bridesmaids, Miss Dorothy Ion and Miss Thelma Morse, were frocked in apple green satin.
The bridegroom, who is the only son of Mrs. Lansdell and the late Mr. Claude Lansdell, of Bracknell, was supported by Mr. Jack Buckley as best man and Mr. Ernie Ion as groomsman. The Wedding March was played by the bride’s sister, Miss Bertha Morse.
After the ceremony relations and friends of the bride and groom were entertained at a reception at the home of the bride’s parents. The bride’s mother was smartly clad in a navy costume with hat to match, and carried a bouquet of marigolds. Under the supervision of Miss M. Richardson, the bridal table was tastefully decorated with gladioli, sweet peas and carnations. Mr. and Mrs. Lansdell’s home will be at Bracknell. The guests at the wedding were:…[list]…[9]
He died on the 2nd of August, 1985, at Roland in Tasmania. His wife, Ethel Helen (MORSE) is buried in the same plot, in the Mersey Vale Memorial Park at Quoiba.[10]
