Hazel Tassie

LOUISVILLE - Funeral services for Hazel Tassie, 87, of Thompson Ridge Road, Route 1, Chase Mills, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Louisville Community Church with Rev. Michael Ward, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Massena.

Private calling hours will be held at her home until the time of the funeral. Arrangements are with the Donaldson Funeral Home in Massena.

Mrs. Tassie died Monday. Feb. 6, 1989, at 6 a.m. at her home.

Surviving are three sons, John Tassie of Massena, Frank R. Tassie and Gerald Tassie, both of Route 1 Chase MiIls; two daughters, Helen Love and Shirley Tassie, both of Massena; several great–grandchildren, several grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Northrup, one brother, Theodore LaVine of Route 1 Chase MiIls; and several nieces and nephews. She was the widow of Alexander W. Tassie, Sr. Mrs. Tassie was also predeceased by two daughters, Mrs. Amos (Norma) Phelix and Mrs. Lawrence (Muriel) Adams; and one son, Pvt. Alexander W. Tassie, Jr. who was killed in World War II.

Mrs. Tassie was born Aug. 23, 1901 in Massena, the daughter of William and Deborah Beckstead LaVine. She was educated in Massena School and married Alexander Tassie on Feb. 15, 1919, at the First Congregational Church in Massena with Rev. Black officiating. Mr. Tassie died Nov. 11, 1983.

Mrs. Tassie worked for a time at the Mica Plant and later worked at the Massena Laundry until her retirement in 1964.

She was an animal lover and an avid bird feeder.
