Biography

John Leddy, son of Michael and Mary Leddy appears in Brooklyn, New York in the 1870 U.S. Census at the age of 5. However, if this is the same John Leddy, then his older sister's name was misspelled as Margaret and he had a younger brother James who died before the next census. ^[1]

John (age 14) can be confirmed in the 1880 U.S. census because he appears with his older sister Marcella whose descendants are known. There is a long age gap between John and his next younger sister, Ann, in this census. ^[2]

In 1892, John was listed at age 28, working as a machinist, together with his mother Mary, brother Michael and sister Annie. The birth order is correct, although they all appear to be 2 years older than expected from the 1880 census.^[3]
