Biography

Sytha Lester was the youngest child of Thomas Lester and Sytha Lucas (wife's name unproven).

Spouse

Thomas Lester died before 1787, when his estate was appraised. [1]Thomas Lester's estate was not settled for more than 50 years, with some of his brother's children, of whom he was guardian, suing his widow, then remarried to John Ballinger, for a portion of the estate. Thomas Lester had left bequests to children in NC, possibly by an earlier marriage.

In 1795, David Hunt was named the guardian to the minor Sytha Lester, orphan of Thomas Lester dec'd. [2] At the time of inventory of Thomas Lester's estate he had the largest amount of books in his household)

In the will of John Ballinger WB 2 Jul 1821 probated 20 Aug 1821 wife Lytha. widow of Thomas Lester. Sythe (Sytha) and her daughter, Sythe Hines received 1/3 of the estate of John Ballinger.

Va can read and write, no occupation (believe this is Elizabeth Hines, younger daughter of Sytha and John Hines-as her sons later identify her last name as Hines as they marry). Eliza Wilson, 11 F M, no occupation, b. VA can read?write.

All of Sytha's children were by John Hines.

Joseph Mays had previously married a woman named Peggy and by her, he appears to have had 4 children, John Mays, Stacy Mays, Sally Mays, William Mays. Sytha Lester Hines Mays was the daughter of Thomas Lester and Sytha Lucas from Stafford/Fairfax co VA. )

SORRY, I LEFT OUT PART OF MY PREVIOUS MESSAGE CONCERNING SYTHA HINES MAYS. The marriage date for Sytha Lester and John Hines was 22 Dec. 1802, in Pittsylvania Co. and her second marriage to Joseph Mays took place on 17 Sept. 1838 in same county. Of the children I names in my previous message, I do not have any listed for the second marriage, but I could be incorrect on the parentage of the children..... Will check my files...
