Biography

Genealogical Note: 1/31/2014 by Chet Snow:

As other genealogists know, the Hendricks family's early American history is colorful, varied and hard to untangle. As I descend on both sides of MY family from the early Hendricks, I have spent some time in this attempt. For "Jane Linville" dgr of John Linville & Ann Hendricks, I have concluded that her actual name most likely was "Jane Ann Linville" as most Family Trees list her as just "Ann Linville born 1708," whereas others say "Jane Linville, born 1708" of the same parents.
The exact identity of Jane Ann's mother is harder to untangle although I think it is safe to say she was Ann Hendricks. Was she born in 1692, dgr of James (Jacobus) Hendricks & Lucy Duckett OR was she born in 1680, dgr of Albert (Albertus) Hendricks [James' father] and Alteje Helchey?
I have found Family Trees via Roots Web World Connect that list each of these 2 possible "Ann Hendricks". Most such sources agree that one of these two Ann Hendricks (niece or aunt) married John Linville in 1706 in Chester Co., Pennsylvania. IF she was the niece born in 1692, as most Trees accept, that made her just 14 when she married John L. - a bit young, even for the frontier [her mother Lucy Duckett was 17 when Ann H. was born; 16 would be acceptable but 14??].
John Linville was born in 1677, so marrying an Ann Hendricks born in 1685 and 21 years old in 1706 is more "normal" BUT the Hendricks family Historian lists James Hendrick's daughter Ann (b. 1692) as the one who married John Linville (he says they married in ca. 1710, making Ann 18 at the time). He says they had a son, William Linville. This same source says that Henry Hendricks b. 1712, James' nephew, married a Jane Linville (no date)... [1]

The Saylor Hensley Family Tree says:

ID: I250
Name: Ann HENDRICKS
Sex: F
Birth: 1692 in PA
Death: AFT 1733
Alt. Birth Alt. Birth Abt 1677
Alt. Death Alt. Death Abt 1733
Father: James Jacobus Hendricks b: Abt 1667 in Philadelphia, PA
Mother: Lucy Duckett b: 1675
Marriage to: John Linville b: 24 May 1677 in Sussex Co England[2]

He perhaps was married in ca 1706 to someone other than Ann. However, documentation has not yet been found. John's daughter Ann was born before 1710,so wife Ann may have been John's only wife. The thing that is bothering the Linville researchers is Ann (wife) doesn't appear on any land records until the 1730's.
