He was born about 1875 in Waitahuna, Otago, New Zealand and his parents were Catherine & William Livingston. ^[1]

James Livingston first married on 21 Jan 1904 in New Zealand to Annie Evans (1879-1923). ^{[2] [3]}

James Livingston married secondly in 1925 to Mona Margaret Martin. ^[4]

He passed away in August 1947 in New Zealand. ^{[5] [6]} and was buried at Mangatera Cemetery in Dannevirke, Tararua District, Manawatū-Whanganui, New Zealand. ^[7]
