Henry was born in 1846 in Stonesfield, Oxfordshire.[1] He was the son of George Long and Eliza Slatter. His baptism took place on 26th July 1846 at the parish church of St James the Great. [2] His father gave his occupation on the baptism register as gamekeeper and stated that the family was living at Kings Wood in the parish of Stonefield.
