Biography

Mary was born about 1788. She passed away in 1875.

Mary Tims Longford was baptised on 27 January 1790 at Chatham, St Mary, Kent, England, parents Richard and Ann Longford.[1] According to later records (1828 census and gravestone inscription) Mary's year of birth may have been two years earlier, about 1788.

Marriage: Mary Longford married William Ikin on January 18, 1807 at St Philips Church, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. They both signed the register, both abode Sydney, and witnesses were John Pilmire, (Signed X) and Maria Ikin, (signed).[2]

William Ikin was in the NSW Corps. The Corps was recalled in 1810 and William, Mary and their two children sailed for England in May 1810. William was discharged mid 1815 at Canada, returned to England, then they sailed back to Australia in the ship Mariner which arrived in NSW 11 Oct 1816.

By 1818 William had opened a store and a public house (in 1818) in Sydney, at Charlotte Square.

He moved to Bankstown where he was the poundkeeper and constable. In 1820 he was appointed Chief Constable of Liverpool.

By 1827 he was involved in ship-building - he had a yard at Liverpool where the 'Wasp' a 13 ton vessel was launched in January.

Her husband William died 14 December 1858 at Clarence Town, NSW.

Death Mary Ikin died on 6 March 1875 at Clarence Town, New South Wales, Australia.[3]

Mary Ikin was buried at Stoney Creek Cemetery, Clarence Town.[4]
