Biography

Christian was born about 1704 in Albemarle County, Carolina Province. She was the daughter of William Ledford and Christiana Blount. Note: Most of the records for Christian and her family spell her family name as Ludford.

Christian was named in her father William Ludford's will of October 8, 1732. [1]

"Fifthly I give my daughter Christian a cow and a calf".

Christian was likely the fourth of her parents ten children. She was born after 1702 as she was not mentioned in their grandfather's will although her older siblings William and Sarah were named.[2]

in the 1719 Will of Obadiah Feare, second husband of her grandmother Ann Young Ludford Feare, he leaves bequeaths for Ann's grandchildren. Christian is named after her siblings William, Sarah and Ann. Given that children are often named in order of descending age, she would be the fourth child of her parents.[3]

1719 Abstract of Will: Obadiah Fear, Pasquotank. June 5, 1719. [grandchildren] William Ludford, Jr., Sarah Ludford, Ann Ludford, Christian Ludford, Jr., Mary, Martha, Tomson, and Thomas Ludford; [Ann's son] Wm. Ludford, Sr. Exr, wife Ann Exx. Test, Edward Linington, Jasper Winshipp, And. Oliver.

Christian married Joshua Alexander about 1723. They had at least eleven children,

In 1741, Christian signed "her mark" as a witness to the Will of Anthony Alexander (her husband's father); her husband Joshua was the Executor. [4]

1757 Christian was the Executrix of her husband Joshua's estate. on 3 Mar 1757, Christian and her sons Joseph, Michael, and Joshua submitted a petition for probate to the court for Joshua Alexander, deceased. [5]

She passed away in 1760 about 3 years after the death of her husband Joshua Alexander. In her will dated 16 May 1760,[6], she names eleven of their children: Joshua, William, Michael, Benjamin, Joseph, Ann Mann, Christian Mann, Martha, Sarah, and Ludford and Isaac (twins).

Ledford-7429 and Ludford-858 appear to represent the same person because: Due to alternate spelling of family name Ledford/Ludford, a second profile for Christian Ledford aka Ludford was created. Both profiles represent the wife of Joshua Alexander.

Ludlow-962 and Ledford-7429 appear to represent the same person because: Correcting misspelled last name of father Ledford/Ludford rather than Ludlow also requires merging his attached family including daughter Christian Ledford/Ludford
