Biography

Fanny Lugard was born 24 September 1841 and was baptised on 29 October 1841 at Vizagapatam, Madras, India^[1]. She was the daughter of Frederick Lugard and Grace Morgan.

Her parents were later divorced. Her father remarried, twice.

At the age of 18 Fanny married 27 year old Lieutenant John William Aitchison on 16 April 1860 at Madras, India, by Licence^[2].

They had at least one daughter: Mary Emily Frances Aitchinson (b. abt. 1 Oct 1861, d. 11 Mar 1948)

Her husband William died in 1870.

She married, secondly, Lewis Charles Nanney. They had at least two children:

1. Frances Catherine Guise Nanney (b. 29 Sep 1871, d. 1970)
2. Florence Louise Guise Nanney (b. 1 Nov 1874, d. 25 Dec 1943)

In the 1911 England Census, Frances Nanney (aged 69) was recorded living with her husband Lewis Charles Nanney (71 and a retired Lt. Col.) and her granddaughter Una Mary Lugard Clarke (3) at Holmwood North Park, Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. Also in the household were two household staff, Bella Jane Hoplrins (28) and Florence Emily Bernard (22).

Her husband died on 3 October 1915.

Fanny passed away on 1 December 1920^[3]. Her Will was proved on 21 January 1921 at London to Richard Arthur Barlow, professor Guildhall School of Music^[4]. Effects: £64 5s. 6d.
