Active in politics: Like his father, John Lutz was a staunch Whig. He was very prominent in Lancaster County political affairs (Landmarks of Canton, p. 668). [7]

His brother's estate: In 1864, John Lutz was a resident of East Cocalico township, Lancaster county, Pennsylvania when he received a one-fifth share of his brother Henry's estate. He was the oldest of three surviving brothers (HenryLutz inquest, 1864). [8]

Census analysis: John Lutz, age 53, and family appear in the 1850 Federal Census, Pennsylvania, Lancaster county, East Cocalico township, p. 346. In addition to wife Susannah age 46 there is Adam, 23; Susannah, 18; John 5; and a Jacob Leysey, 15. Jacob is most probably a hired hand. [1]
