His estate settlement: Henry Lutz apparently never married; or if he did, he had no issue and his wife would have predeceased him. He died without a will, late of East Cocalico township, Lancaster county, Pennsylvania. By intestate law, his estate was distributed in five equal parts. One part to each of his three brothers John, Adam and Jacob; one part divided among the seven children of his deceased sister Polly Witter (Withers); one part divided among the eight children of his deceased sister Catharine Martin (Henry Lutz inquest, 1864). [4]

Census analysis: ||. The census schedules support the fact he was single, at least in his later years. The 1850 Federal Census, Pennsylvania, Lancaster county, East Cocalico township shows Henry Lutz, 48,farmer, with real estate valued at $8,500. He is shown in the household of Samuel Lutz, Jr., 46, farmer. Samuel may be a relative, but most certainly is a tenant farmer since he has no real estate listed. Samuel has a wife Magdalena, age 40. Another couple is shown in the household, both age 19, Peter and Susannah Steep, probably hired help.
In the 1860 census, same location, Henry Lutz, 57, farmer, real estate $12,000, personal estate $5,100.Henry is shown in the household of John B. Gockley, 34, master storekeeper, real estate $100, personal estate$800. [1]
