Biography

Elsi Löscher, daughter of Hans Löscher, was baptized on 14 October 1649 in Erlenbach im Simmental, a small town in the Canton of Bern, Switzerland, located on the Simme River, between Wimmis and Därstetten. The sponsors were Jacob Räber, Madlena Hirschy, and Maria Proctor. [1]

By 6 April 1672, Elsbet was living in Mannhein, in the Palatinate region of what is now Germany, with her husband Hans Herr. A report by a delegation of Dutch Mennonites sent to the area to investigate the plight of the Swiss Mennonites in the Palatinate, included: [2] [3]

Hans Herr, about 20, and Elsbet Lötscher, his wife, age 22, no children. These people can feed themselves from their linen weaving.

Also in Mannheim were three of Elsbet's sisters: Grietgen (a nickname for Margret), Anna and Salome. Grietgen was married to Hans' brother Christian Herr.

The date and location of Elsbeth's death are unknown at this time.
