Mungo Lorenz MacCallum was born in 1884 in Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire, Wales, United Kingdom. He was the older son of Scottish-born Mungo William MacCallum, a university lecturer, and Prussian-born Dorette Peters. [1]
Whilst an infant, he migrated with his family to New South Wales (Australia) in 1887, when his father took up an appointment to the University of Sydney.
Whilst studying at the University of Sydney Mungo won a Rhodes Scholarship. He later became a barrister and journalist.
Mungo married Hilda Ballardie in 1912 in Lithgow, New South Wales. [2] They made their home at Point Piper, in Sydney's harbourside eatern suburbs.
Aged about 49 years, Mungo passed away in 1933 in Woollahra, New South Wales. [3] He was survived by Hilda, who remained a widow until her death in 1981, their four teenage children, his parents, and sister and brother and their families.
