Biography
Robert MacCarthy was born in 1904 in Borrisokane, County Tipperary, Ireland. He was the son of Robert MacCarthy and Elizabeth Freeman [1].
In the 1911 census Robert is shown with his family as: Robert 40, Elizabeth Ann 38, William Henry 10, Ernest 9, Robert 6, Annabella 5, Mary Francis 4 and Lucenda Deberah 2 [2]. His occupation (Robert snr) was shown as Merchant and Postmaster and religion Church of Ireland.
The MacCarthy family arrive in New Zealand prior to 1921, as the eldest son William gets married in NZ in 1921. They arrive into Wellington in 1912 on the ship Remuera shown as: Mr R MacCarthy farmer Ireland, Mrs MacCarthy, Master W, Master E, Master R, Miss A, Miss M, Miss L all shown in the children category 1-12 years [3].
He passed away about 1992 in New Zealand [4].
