Ranald was born in 1736. Being only ten years old when his father, Alexander MacDonald, was killed at Culloden he was placed under the tutelage of his elder brother, Angus MacDonald of Inch who led the clan until well after Ranald came of age.
Ranald was wounded “thro’ the knee” at battle of Plains of Abraham on September 13, 1759.[1]
