Biography

Lachlan (MacKinnon) MacKinnon XXV of Strathordill is a member of Clan MacKinnon.

Lachlan Og MacKinnon (MacFingon), 25th Chief of Clan MacKinnon, was born around 1540 and became heir to his father, Lachlan Dubh MacFingon/MacKinnon, in July 1581, for the lands in Mishnish, on the Isle of Mull, and Strathordill, on the Isle if Skye.[1] [2]

Clan MacKinnon Arms

In 1587 a severe conflict between the MacDonalds and the MacLeans caused great death. Each Clan ravaged the areas of the other Clan. Homes were burned, domestic animals slaughtered and many people were killed. The news of the extreme cruelty reached the King of Scotland and he used the Chiefs of the Campbells to undertake a mediation process between the warring Clans. Part of that effort involved the MacDonald receiving an assurance of a pardon for crimes and receiving eight hostages of rank from the MacLean in exchange for MacDonald performing certain acts. The hostages included Lauchlan MacKinnon and Neill MacKinnon, sons of Lauchlan Og MacKinnon of Strathordell, Chief of Clan MacKinnon. The list of hostages were enumerated in a record of the Privy Council dated April 16, 1587. [3]

In 1598 the old feud between the MacDonalds and the MacLeans, dating back to 1587, broke out again. A major battle took place on August 5th at Lochgruinart, Scotland. The MacLean, eighty of his kinsmen and 200 other soldiers were killed. Hector MacLean succeeded his father and continued the war against the MacDonalds. Lachlan Og, the 25th Chief MacKinnon, [4] led his Clan as an ally of the MacLeans and they invaded Islay. They met the MacDonalds at Bern Bige and defeated them and ravaged the island.

Lachlan Og died by early 1601. His son, Lauchlan MacKinnon became Chief and is mentioned on January 8th, 1601, in a bond of friendship with Archibald Campbell, 7th Earl of Argyle. [5] [6]

Mackinnon-1748 and MacKinnon-621 appear to represent the same person because: These profiles have essentially the same last name (Mackinnon vs. MacKinnon). The first names, birth, and death dates are basically the same. They are both 25th Chief of Clan MacKinnon.
