William was the 5th son of Charles Fitzroy MacLean and Margaret Mearns of Dunedin.
William never married. He worked as a Sugar Boiler.
His name was drawn in the World War I - First Reserve Rolls Ballot 1916-17. 1
In 1919, William died at his sister's home, Leith Street, Dunedin.
