Biography
Mattie was the daughter of James Tarlton Maddox (1844-1892) and Martha Jane Lett (1851-1935).
In 1914, she married Connie Maize Howard (1891-1995).[1]
In April 1915, she became the mother of James Lester Howard.[2]
In Dec 1917, she had a second son, Walter Britton Howard (1917-1999).[3]
In 1920, she was living in Chatham, North Carolina with her husband and children. [4]
In Apr 1922, Mattie's last child was born. He was a son named Clayton Allen Howard (1922-1990).[5]
Mattie died in 1927 when she was an inmate in the State Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her cause of death was exhaustion with psychosis.[6]
There is a sad note in the newspaper announcing her death that states she left a husband and 4 children. Her brother attended the burial at Moore Union Church in Sanford, North Carolina.[7][8]
