Biography

Mathilde was born on 03-March-1861 and baptized on 13-March-1861.

She was born in the Dutchy of Holstein, which was under Danish control at the time. As a result of the Second Schleswig War of 1866 (part of the Austro-Prussian War), when she was about 5 years old, the area became part of the Kingdom of Prussia. The area is on the north side of the mouth of the Elbe River in present-day Germany.

In 1882 she emigrated from Ramhusen, Holstein, Prussia (now Germany) to the United States. She left Hamburg sailing on the Berlin on 14-Mar-1882 and transferred to the S. S. Ethiopia in Glasgow before arriving in New York on March 31. During the voyage she was traveling with her brother Reimer and his wife Maria.
