Jean Baptiste Marcadet was born about 1698 in La Chapelle, France. His parents are unknown. [1]

Jean married Madeleine Benoit (born in Cobeguit, Acadie, Nouvelle-France; daughter of Jean Benoit and Marie Anne Breau) around 1727 in Acadie. [1]

Their children were:

  2. Jean Baptiste Marcadet (about 1729– ) .
  3. Pierre Marcadet (about 1735– ) .
  4. François Marcadet (about 1739– ) .
  5. Michel Marcadet (about 1741– ) .
  6. Marie Madeleine Marcadet (about 1742–before 1776) .
  7. Jean Lucas Marcadet (about 1743–1775) .
  8. Anne Blanche Marcadet (about 1744– ) .
  9. Joseph Marcadet (about 1746–1760) .
  10. Judith Marcadet (about 1748–1820) .
  11. Modeste Marcadet (about 1751–1780) .
  12. Jean Louis Marcadet (1753–1758)

He and Madeleine Benoit had 12 children, all born in Acadie except the last one. They had 11 children in the household in 1752, at Rivière-de-Miré, Isle Royale. [2]

Jean was buried on 13 May 1758 in Louisbourg, Ile Royale, Acadie. The date of his death was not noted in the register. [3] He was given about 60 years of age.

His wife and four of their children were deported to France in the fall of 1758.

    Selon l'acte du premier mariage de leur fils Jean-Baptiste (Rg Louisbourg 13 nov 1753), Jean Marcadet et Madeleine Benoit étaient venus de Cobeguit à l'Île Royale. Nous présumons que Madeleine était originaire de cette même paroisse. Étant donné que les recensements de 1707 et 1714 nous laissent entendre que Jean Benoit était chef de la seule famille de ce nom à Cobeguit, nous concluons que Madeleine était sa fille. (Translation: According to the record of the first marriage of their son Jean-Baptiste (Rg Louisbourg November 13, 1753), Jean Marcadet and Madeleine Benoit had come from Cobeguit to Île Royale. We presume that Madeleine was from this same parish. Given that the censuses of 1707 and 1714 suggest that Jean Benoit was head of the only family of that name in Cobeguit, we conclude that Madeleine was his daughter)

    They have eleven children, six sons and five daughters.
    Jean, aged 23 years;
    Pierre, aged 17 years;
    Francois, aged 13 years;
    Michel, aged 11 years;
    Jean Lucas, aged 9 years;
    Joseph, aged 6 years;
    Marie, aged 24 years;
    Marie Madeleine, aged 10 years;
    Anne la Blanche, aged 8 years;
    Jucie, aged 4 years,
    Modeste, aged one year, all natives of la Cadie, with the exception of the last, who was born at St. Pierre.
    They have ben given rations for two years. They have no dwelling and no live stock. They are wintering in the house of one Tessé.
