John Marchant, later a seaman, was probably one of the two males by that name to have been christened in Yeovil St. John, Somerset:
Potential parents include:
He may have married 1594 at Yeovil to a Joane Coddington [citation needed].
Quote: " Juliana Marchant Marchant-1145 was the daughter of John Marchant, who was bapt. at Yeovil, Aug. 8, 1571, and granddaughter of John Marchant and his wife, Eva Cominge, who were married at Yeovil on July 18, 1568. John, Sr., d-1593. The Marchant family in Yeovil, according to the register, is as old as the register itself, which dates from the year 1563."[3]
Death: On 2 January 1595/96, Drake's forces marched up a hill only to discover at the last minute that the Spanish had hidden a fort on top of it. Twenty-some Englishmen were killed, including “Quarter-master Generall” Marchant. Three weeks later, Sir Francis Drake himself succumbed to dysentery, and was buried at sea, in a lead coffin. Capt. Marchant was likely buried at the site of his death, in Panama. [5]

A review of Canterbury probate records found a 1580 will of Gyles Marchant, son of John, brother of John, husband of Alice, father of unmarried Joan.

My person Marchant-1150 at least lived in the Somerset as he married there.
I'm going to try to find that 1569 christening to see if names parents. The 1571 one does not.
Have you looked to see if there were any wills for the respective fathers?
